The Columbia Spectator, the daily newspaper of Columbia University and Morningside Heights in New York, is using SlideShowPro for Faces of Iraq, a special micro-site documenting the war experiences of Garth Stewart, an Iraq war veteran who lost his leg to a landmine and who currently attends Columbia. Solid combination of original photos and interview audio.

02.20.06  |  SlideShowPro 1.3.0 Released

Posted by Todd Dominey at 4:17 pm | Permalink | More of this topic in  General, SlideShowPro for Flash

A quick patch has been released to fix a permalinks related bug that appeared in 1.2.9. This bug would cause SlideShowPro to incorrectly revert back to the first album after an image was loaded in an album linked to with a permalink URL. If you are already using 1.2.9 and aren’t using permalinks, or the setStartAlbum() ActionScript method in your movie, it isn’t necessary to update to this release. But for everyone else you should. Login to the user section to download.

02.13.06  |  Who’s the birthday boy?

BirthdayFebruary 14th means something else to most people, but for me it’s also the birthday of SlideShowPro, which was released into the wild one year ago today.

It’s been one hell of a ride these past twelve months. The component is in active use on tens of thousands of web sites, and continues to spread in popularity with each passing month — all of it without a dime of advertising. It’s the users that have helped make SlideShowPro into what it is today, and for that I thank you all.

Here’s to another year!

02.08.06  |  The beta rolls on

Posted by Todd Dominey at 11:42 am | Permalink | More of this topic in  SlideShowPro for Flash

In case you didn’t notice, the 1.2.9 beta I released a little over a week ago has since been updated a couple of times, incorporating new features including additional image alignment options, the preloading of thumbnail images, and bug fixing in regard to the loadAlbum() method. It’s very stable (honestly more so than some builds I’ve released — kick self in head), but I’m labeling it as a beta simply because I don’t want to release 1.2.9 until I’m absolutely sure enough people have tested it.

With the number of users increasing and the complexity of the app deepening every day, I’m deploying a more cautious stance on updates instead of quickly adding features and pushing them out into the final product. That system worked fine for a long time, but it would now be irresponsible of me. So going forward, expect final releases to be released farther apart, but it’ll be worth it.
