A new build of SlideShowPro Director 1.5 is now available (Build 5533). We’ve fixed a variety of smaller issues (see the version history), but two additions are worth mentioning:
“Back” by popular demand
Since the initial preview of SlideShowPro Mobile, we’ve received strong feedback both for and against a dedicated back button. Initially, we decided not include a back button in favor of relying on the native back button already present in all of the mobile browsers that we support. With this new build of Director, we have added an option to the embed code that allows you to turn on a new built-in back button (it is off by default). For instructions on how to enable the back button, consult the wiki. We’ve also added a similar option that allows the “info” button to be turned off.
Incremental loading for the mobile player
In the week or so since Director 1.5 has been released, we’ve received various reports about the mobile player bogging down when larger galleries were being loaded. Mobile devices can often impose strict resource limits and it is very likely that the data requests for these large galleries were running into those limits. In Build 5533, we rewrote the data loading process for the mobile player so that it breaks the process up into smaller requests and also only loads the data when it is needed. The result is a much more efficient player that is easier on both the server and the mobile client.
Build 5533 is now available via the in-app upgrader and the account center. If you are a slideshowpro.com hosting customer, your installs have already been upgraded.

This month we’re starting something new with user examples. Instead of picking ten examples and crowning one site as “Site of the month”, we’re now featuring the entire group as “Sites of the Month”. We’re making the change because it has become increasingly difficult (borderline impossible, actually) to feature just one site when every example uses different products to achieve different goals. Picking ten is hard enough! One thing won’t change however — we’ll still bring you the most creative, interesting, and inspiring examples shared with us in the hope that it further inspires all SlideShowPro users to not only push our products to greater heights, but to succeed in creating exciting and original web destinations for audiences the world over.
As a way of saying ‘thank you’ for making us look so good, all those included in our “Sites of the month” roundup will receive a free SlideShowPro t-shirt.

SITE OF THE MONTH (April, 2010):
Christina Timis
http://www.cristinatimis.com/
(SlideShowPro for Flash)
This month’s site of the month belongs to Cristina Timis, a Romanian fashion model using SlideShowPro for Flash as part of her all-Flash driven web site. What’s most intriguing about Cristina’s site is the clever, rather unorthodox navigation system which consists of three vertical windows stacked on top of each other. You can scroll your mouse wheel up for full screen images, or scroll down for a huge photo matrix of photos that each popup larger (proportionally scaled versions) of the photos. In both areas you can navigate horizontally as well using custom buttons. SlideShowPro is used for all the large photo viewing, though you wouldn’t know it, for all of its interface has been turned off to bring the designer’s original concept to life.

SITE OF THE MONTH (March, 2010):
Hello Delta
http://hellodelta.net/portfolio.htm
(SlideShowPro for Flash, ThumbGrid, SlideShowPro Director)
Hello Delta (designed by Deluge Studios) features cultural photography of the Mississippi Delta shot by photographer Kallie Dreher. With a range of photos including churches, cemeteries, blues musicians, farms, shacks, landmarks and people, the site is a rich visual treat that celebrates a rural area of the United States rarely seen by outsiders. SlideShowPro ThumbGrid is used to browse album content, while SlideShowPro for Flash is used to display the actual slideshow. The components are augmented with external buttons to navigate forward, backward, and to return to the gallery interface. They’ve also included a clever counter text field that switches between photo numbers and page numbers depending on which interface state is currently visible. Behind it all, SlideShowPro Director is publishing all the thumbnails and slideshow content and provides a convenient system for Kallie to update her portfolio content whenever she wants. There are loads of wonderful images to see as well, so do check it out.
Stay where you are. We'll push the news to you.
