Which version of SlideShowPro is right for you? It depends on how much web development experience you have, whether you currently own Flash and/or Lightroom, and the level of customization you are interested in. The chart below attempts to reconcile these differences in visual form.
1 Slideshow settings should be edited before assigning Director as the data source (Windows version of Lightroom only).
2 ThumbGrid compatible with the ActionScript 3 version of SlideShowPro for Flash (which comes with the ActionScript 2 version in the same download). Flash CS3 or newer also required.
3 Loading videos using SlideShowPro for Lightroom requires manual editing of slideshow data and content post-publish.
SlideShowPro for Flash is a component built for Flash authoring application. It is compatible with all versions of Flash (going all the way back to Macromedia Flash MX 2004), and can be easily installed and used with any new or existing FLA document.
Drag and drop
To add SlideShowPro, open the Components panel and drag/drop the component to the Stage. When released, you'll see a live preview of the component (preview shown at left). And just like any other object in Flash (like a Movie Clip), you can resize the component, move it around, and position it wherever you like. All internal elements are re-drawn with each change, so it conforms to the size you need.
Fully editable
All of SlideShowPro's parameters (over 100 of them) are editable in Flash's Component Inspector panel (shown right). This single interface provides total control over everything inside SlideShowPro, from element visibility, color, transparency, behavior, layout, and much more. When assigning colors, the panel provides a handy eyedropper palette to select an existing swatch, or to type in a custom hex value. Parameters can also be saved and re-used with new component instances using our free export / import scripts (Flash CS3 or higher required).
Dynamic content
All of the photos and videos loaded by SlideShowPro for Flash come from outside the SWF file that Flash publishes. This gives you complete freedom to update your published slideshow whenever you want, without having to publish more SWFs from Flash.
This all happens through a single external XML file. You can create one yourself (we provide instructions), load a Media RSS file, use one of our free scripts, or use SlideShowPro Director — a CMS we custom built for SlideShowPro that allows you to upload, manage, and build collections of slideshow content. And when content is requested from Director, images are published at the exact sizes required for optimum quality.
Publish to preview
To see your slideshow, test publish a movie within Flash. Modify it's behavior, size, style, whatever you like. When your SWF is ready to display online, upload the SWF and requisite assets to your server, embed the SWF in a HTML document (we provide all the instructions you need, if necessary) and load in a web browser. When you're done, build another one! You can use SlideShowPro for Flash over and over to create all the slideshows you want. That's what it's designed for.
SlideShowPro for Lightroom (Latest version: 1.4.9.4)
SlideShowPro for Lightroom installs as a "web engine" for Adobe Lightroom. You simply install the plugin folder to Lightroom's presets director, and the engine is then available in the application's "Web" workspace. Click on "Web" in the top navigation, select SlideShowPro as your gallery template, and you're off.
Total image control
Because SlideShowPro for Lightroom uses the original photos you're already managing in Lightroom, you choose slideshow content just like currently do — through Filters, Collections and Folders in the Filmstrip. Any settings or filters assigned to a photo will be used when slideshow content is created, so you don't have to export photos or make changes to your existing content to use them in SlideShowPro for Lightroom.
Point and click interface
Need your slideshow to be a particular size? Or color? SlideShowPro for Lightroom has over 100 parameters that control slideshow appearance, layout, and behavior; all of which are editable through color pickers, drop-down boxes, and sliders inside Lightroom. And anytime you make a change, the live preview of SlideShowPro refreshes to show your changes. This allows you the time to get your slideshow looking and behaving how you want before uploading to your web site.
Nothing to code or edit
If acronyms like HTML, XML, and SWF raise your blood pressure, don't worry. SlideShowPro for Lightroom constructs all the requisite files for viewing a slideshow in a web browser. You either export your slideshow to a folder on your hard drive (then manually upload it to your web site or add to Dreamweaver), or enter your web site's FTP information directly into Lightroom for direct uploading. Either way, there's nothing to code, and your content can display from any web server.
Always editable
Save your creation as a template within Lightroom and update it anytime. Create multiple templates for more than one slideshow, and your unique settings for each will be saved. Whether you're publishing one slideshow or a hundred, you can always make changes.
SlideShowPro Standalone is a compiled SWF including the same SlideShowPro player published by the Flash and Lightroom versions. Instead of editing the player with a third-party application however, you embed a SWF in an HTML document and edit player data and settings through a pair of external XML files. The SWF also offers an ExternalInterface API that Javascript developers can tap-into for player events and data.
Note: The Standalone player is intended for web developers and designers who are comfortable embedding the Flash Player and editing options without a user interface. If you aren't sure whether the Standalone version is right for you, please download the free trial before purchasing.
Fully editable
Modifications to slideshow style, behavior, and interface are handled through a single external XML file. This file can be static, or you can feed dynamic xml markup generated by a scripting language (like PHP, ASP, etc). Whichever route you choose, we provide detailed API documentation explaining each parameter and the options available to you.
Slideshow size can be modified by simply changing the width/height of the SWF when embedded. SlideShowPro will automatically adjust its interface to the size you dictate.
Extendable with Javascript
If you can code basic Javascript, you can tap into all of SlideShowPro's public methods and events (and the data they contain). This allows you to (for example) externally control your slideshow with HTML buttons, display image metadata like titles and captions, and detect when a user switches albums.
Modifiable through FlashVars
If you'd rather assign slideshow properties dynamically than through a static XML file, you can with FlashVars. Simply assign a variable using the same name as the SlideShowPro variable you wish to modify, and you're done. SlideShowPro will receive the variable and use its value instead.
Unique features
SlideShowPro for Flash includes everything mentioned above, plus a few features that are unique to the Flash component version.
ActionScript 2 and 3 API
Know a little ActionScript? If so, SlideShowPro has a full-featured API (both ActionScript 2 and 3) that contains all the properties, methods and events developers crave. Do things like control SlideShowPro from buttons outside the component, display photo captions and titles in external text fields,
Customizable buttons
Want to use your own buttons inside the slideshow? No problem. SlideShowPro gives you access to the embedded buttons by allowing you to swap them out with your own movie clips.
Sound effects, watermarks, embedded typefaces
Because SlideShowPro for Flash leverages Flash itself, there are all kinds of customizations you can make to your published movies, including embedding sound clips for use as interface sound effects, layering a custom watermark over slideshow content, and embedding typeface outlines for use inside SlideShowPro's interface.
Plays nice with existing Flash content
Already have some Flash content you'd like to add a slideshow to? No problem. SlideShowPro drops right into your existing Flash. Drag and drop it in, or dynamically load as an external SWF.
Unique features
SlideShowPro for Lightroom includes everything mentioned above, plus a few features that are unique to the Lightroom version, including:
Wet-floor effect
If you like the "wet-floor" reflection look, you'll love SlideShowPro for Lightroom. It comes with an optional toggle to add a wet floor reflection underneath your slideshow. The effect updates in real-time as users interact with your slideshow.
Built-in content publishing
Unlike SlideShowPro for Flash and SlideShowPro Standalone, SlideShowPro for Lightroom publishes slideshow photos and data for you using content from your Lightroom Library.
Template header, pop-ups
In addition to the core SlideShowPro interface are two editable areas only in the Lightroom version: a "Header" area for displaying the gallery title, description, and a custom logo, and "Pop-ups" which display when slideshow content is clicked and contain larger versions of the photos in your slideshow.
Photo metadata
Because SlideShowPro for Lightroom leverages Lightroom itself, photo captions and titles can be dynamically constructed using any EXIF and IPTC metadata that's embedded in your photos.
Unique features
SlideShowPro Standalone includes everything mentioned above, plus a few features that are unique to the Standalone version, including:
SlidePress plugin
SlideShowPro Standalone comes with SlidePress — a free plugin for WordPress that gives you the power to build, save, and publish slideshows for blog posts and pages. See the SlidePress page for more information.
No third party authoring application required
SlideShowPro Standalone is a pre-compiled SWF, ready for embedding and editing without the need for a third party application like Adobe Flash or Adobe Lightroom.
Button packs built-in
The extra "Quartz" and "Pearl" navigation button packs distributed with SlideShowPro for Flash are baked-into the Standalone version, and can be switched on/off by editing a single parameter
Events, methods, properties setup and ready to go
Coding the requisite hooks between Flash (ActionScript) and Javascript through Flash's ExternalInterface class, as well as dynamically assigning FlashVars, can be a bit tricky if you haven't coded ActionScript before. With SlideShowPro Standalone though, the "hooks" to get dynamic data into the SWF to modify SlideShowPro are already there for you to edit without leaving your HTML document.
Requirements

The first script uses images already opened in Photoshop, while the second scans a folder of original images. Both scripts export SlideShowPro's requisite XML file, and automatically downscales / sharpens your photo for export through Photoshop's Save for Web compression engine. When published, you simply link SlideShowPro to the published XML and you're done.

The SlideShowPro Export for iPhoto plugin is a free, easy way to batch export content for SlideShowPro. Simply select which albums or images you wish to export, and the plugin creates all the images you need, plus the XML file! It's a fast, no-hassle way to get your content into SlideShowPro with ease.

SlidePress
SlidePress is a WordPress plugin that allows you to publish slideshows (using SlideShowPro Standalone) in blog posts and pages.
Easy to use
SlidePress is integrated directly into WordPress' post editing interface. Click the SlidePress button (shown right) and you can create slideshows without leaving your post. The slideshow is inserted inline, and can be previewed alongside your other blog post content. There's no code to edit, and you have full control over every aspect of the slideshows you create.
Complete customization
SlidePress provides a user interface to edit all of SlideShowPro's settings. You may change slideshow color, behavior, and layout just like you would inside Flash or Lightroom. Settings may be exported for use as a template, to share with other SlidePress users, or for backup purposes.
WordPress Media Library compatible
You can build slideshows that display content from SlideShowPro Director, Media RSS feeds, or your own XML markup — just like you can with SlideShowPro Standalone. But SlidePress gives you the means to use your WordPress Media Library photos as well. You can actually upload photos and build a slideshow (using the same uploaded content) all within the blog post editing interface.
Automatic installation and updates
SlidePress is part of the WordPress plugins directory; giving you the means to both install the plugin automatically as well as install updates when they come available.
Requirements and compatibility
SlidePress is built for the self-install version of WordPress, and is not compatible with the hosted version at WordPress.com. SlidePress is also only compatible with the Standalone version of SlideShowPro, and cannot be used to administer slideshows published from SlideShowPro for Flash or SlideShowPro for Lightroom. For WordPress blog post embedding using the latter, we recommend using the SwfObj Plugin.
How much?
Not a penny! The SlidePress plugin is free for purchasers of SlideShowPro Standalone.
In addition to SlidePress, SlideShowPro Standalone comes with extra scripts and plugins to help you create data and content. They are all included free with your SlideShowPro Standalone purchase, and are available for download in the Account Center.
